Distinctions and Descansos
When one reaches a certain point in life, it may be necessary to look over past accomplishments, assign merit to particular actions or deeds of oneself or of society as a whole, or evaluate life in the bigger scheme of things such as history, philosophy, spirituality, or science. In this gallery, I am drawn to speak about natural disasters such as wildfire, collage elements of beauty and importance or reflect on accidental crossings on my journey. How to acknowledge my observations is my task. In the Distinction Gallery, the circular structure, having no beginning or end, continues with the birth, life, and death of the idea or the concept. In the Descansos Gallery, the vase structure reflects a preserving of the idea or concept. Both distinction and descansos honor the subject in mind and the challenge is to see how far to push the concept in the chosen structure.
